Interdenominational Church Service.
Songs of Praise
Castle Bil Bil
Costa del Sol, Spain
Every Sunday from 1st week in October until last Sunday in May.
Time 5.30pm until 6.30pm.
How the Services Began
Songs of Praise in Castle Bil Bil started November 2006, after a major tour operator decided to withdraw the services of a Chaplain from their hotels. These Services were organised in collaboration with the Intercontinental Church Society (missionary branch of Church of England) for a period of 20 years
Margaret Findlay from Aberdeen, Scotland came to reside in Benalmadena and felt that something should be done to continue some kind of Christian Outreach and Fellowship particularly for the visitors to the area. With this in mind she approached the Mayor who kindly granted permission to use Castle Bil Bil for a "Songs of Praise" Service.
It was an amazing example of how when one door closes, God is able to open up another!
What about the venue?
Castle Bil Bil was built in 1930 as a private home in the style of an Arab Castle. It was abandoned in the 70's and quickly fell into disrepair because of the climate and it's proximity to the sea. The Benalmadena Town Council bought it in the early 80's thus saving it from demolition. It has been restored to its former glory and is now used as a centre for weddings and cultural events. Thanks to the co-operation of the Castle's Director it is opened up on Sunday's, especially for our "Songs of Praise"
How to Find Us
The Castle is situated on a small headland at the opposite end of the beach from the Marina. There is a bus stop very close by on Avda. Antonio Machado. The bus runs at regular intervals between Torremolinos and Fuengirola. Good landmarks are the "Sails Roundabout" and the "Windmill Roundabout." Castle Bil Bil is to be found about midway between the two!
Who leads the Services?
Both local and visiting clergy or lay preachers are invited to lead the Services. Each week we have a particular theme and the hymns are chosen to relate to that theme. Our Themes have included for example, "Why trust the Bible?" / "Living the Christian Life" / "Who is this Jesus?"
People from many denominations, cultures and continents!
